Come listen to a prophet's voice

Cancel out some doctrines found -

Some awkward things have come to light

And no longer can be kept down.

Our leaders will revise the past

And the lies they'll reinvent.

Awkward doctrines can be "clarified"

To reflect God's "true" intent.

The blacks were neutral in God's war

And received the curse of Cain.

Brigham Young taught that their ban for life

From the priesthood would remain.

Death was the mandated penalty

For mixing with their seed;

But in the seventies, we changed God's mind.

"They're OK now!" was decreed.

We avoid discussing polygamy

And how Joseph Smith denied

Having anything but just one wife

Even though he had dozens of wives.

Some were married already to other men.

Some were barely teenage brides.

Some were coaxed with the threat of a flaming sword

Or salvation as a bribe.

We can tell the world it's not doctrinal

Though we believe it secretly.

Inconvenient truths can frosted with

A veneer of humility.

We will hook you with a hug and a smile

And we'll shoehorn you in til you believe.

Then, at last you'll stand up and testify

That your tithing has freed you from your greed.
